Veterinary Technician - Anesthesia
About the role
As an Anesthesia Veterinary Technician at BluePearl Pet Hospital, you will assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs. You will monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions. You will also perform physical exams, count vital signs, set up intravenous fluids, operate intravenous fluid pumps, and manage appointments, histories, medical records, invoicing, patient discharges, and more.
Responsibilities
- Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures
- Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions
- Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance
- Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal
- Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s
- Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management
- Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors
- Comfortable with medical math
- Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery)
- Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
- Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically
- Maintain patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Experience with anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures
- Knowledge of intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance
- Ability to perform physical exams and count vital signs accurately
- Understanding of normal vital parameters and ability to alert doctors when abnormalities are detected
- Experience setting up intravenous fluids and CRI’s
- Advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management
- Experience operating intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshooting errors
- Comfort with medical math
- Ability to manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, and more
- Experience disconnecting and connecting patients from intravenous fluids aseptically
- Experience maintaining patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you should have:
- A degree in veterinary technology or a related field
- Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary technology in the state where you will be working
- At least one year of experience in a veterinary hospital setting
- Experience with anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures
- Knowledge of intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance
- Ability to perform physical exams and count vital signs accurately
- Understanding of normal vital parameters and ability to alert doctors when abnormalities are detected
- Experience setting up intravenous fluids and CRI’s
- Advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management

Pay
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.
