About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brandon, FL is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Team. We are now offering a sign-on bonus for qualified applicants.
Pay
This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system. A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.
Requirements
- A minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
- A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.
Qualifications

Skills
- Review patient history, weight, and health status.
- Perform pre-anesthetic exams (vitals, bloodwork prep, radiographs).
- Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters.
- Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Induce, monitor, and recover stable and unstable patients from anesthesia.
- Recognize, troubleshoot, and treat adverse anesthetic events with clinician support and approval.
- Place NG tubes and sampling catheters.
- Blood type and cross match patients in need of blood transfusion, and administer blood products using medical quality gold standard of care.
- Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
- Able to set up intravenous fluids.
- Able to administer subcutaneous fluids.
- Able to operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
- Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Able to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
