Veterinary Technician, All Species
About the role
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN, ALL SPECIES, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to serve as part of MIT’s centralized animal care program, providing clinical care and research support for a diverse range of species.
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical observations, treatments, sample collection, colony management, technical procedures, and other study-related activities in compliance with approved protocols, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
- Work independently while collaborating closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and researchers to promote animal health, welfare, research integrity, and exceptional service.
- Maintain clear communication regarding animal health, project progress, and clinical concerns.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience handling laboratory animals.
- Demonstrated time management, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
- Able to work weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) and, upon completion of training, participate in a rotating holiday coverage schedule.
PREFERRED
- AALAS certification and/or CVT or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, or related field.
- Experience with anesthesia administration and pre and post-operative animal care.
- Proficiency in technical skills, including but not limited to injections and blood/tissue collection.
