About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking a Veterinary Receptionist to join our team. Schedules include 4 ten-hour shifts with rotating weekend shifts; typical shift hours range from 7am-5pm, 9am-7pm, and 1pm-11pm.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and make friendly eye contact every time the hospital entry door opens.
  • Offer warm and professional acknowledgment to each client.
  • Always offer a friendly smile, strong eye contact, and an approachable demeanor.
  • Speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone in a way that clients easily understand.
  • Assess immediately upon arrival each client’s rare need, as well as the pet’s general condition.
  • Determine whether an emergency arrival is a "stat" versus "standard" emergency.
  • Respond to non-patient calls or visitors and connect them to the appropriate team member.
  • Confirm all appointments in advance ensuring clients receive accurate information about preparing their pet for the appointment.
  • Offer emotional support and resource materials to grieving clients in a compassionate and discreet manner.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and service agencies during handling of pet remains by ensuring a complete, accurate, and compassionate process.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous receptionist experience is preferred but not required. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with calmness and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Pay

Starting pay range: $20.50 - $30.00 per hour, dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.
