About the role
Oversee a fast-paced and dynamic nonprofit Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC). Lead a high-functioning team, ensure patients receive the highest-quality care, and deliver outstanding client experiences to maximize the CVC’s impact in the community. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for mission-driven work, a desire to serve pets and people, and strong professional operations and people leadership experience.
Where and When You’ll Work
- Monday – Friday, 8-hour schedule with flexibility to work beyond scheduled hours as needed
- On-site at the Queens Community Veterinary Clinic (36-02 14th St, Long Island City, NY 11106)
- Occasional flexibility to report to other ASPCA locations in the greater metro area based on operational need
- Occasional travel outside the greater metro area (5% or less)
Pay
The target hiring range for this role is $117,500 - $125,500 annually. Starting pay depends on education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands, or budgeted amount for the role. Staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time.

Responsibilities
- People Leadership
- Lead a team of managers to optimize clinic operations: client experience, nursing/medical support, and veterinary medicine
- Oversee daily clinic operations to ensure efficient workflows and high-quality service
- Foster a culture of kindness, respect, belonging, high performance, and teamwork through 1:1s, recognition, coaching, and performance evaluations
- Partner with the Regional Management Team to provide clear leadership for the clinic management team
- Recruit and hire staff in partnership with Talent Acquisition
- Ensure new hires receive high-quality onboarding, training, and feedback
- Develop next-generation leaders through career conversations and professional development opportunities
- Planning, Execution & Administration
- Model and deliver superior client experience and patient care daily
- Create and execute plans to meet or exceed clinic impact goals
- Apply mission-driven leadership to achieve impact and improve productivity
- Maintain a safe workplace: oversee safety protocols, OSHA compliance, and ASPCA safety guidelines
- Monitor inclement weather and emergency events; prepare and execute safety plans
- Ensure all staff obtain Fear Free® certifications and practice gentle animal handling
- Oversee financial and administrative health of the CVC, including cash management, expense management, and payroll
- Ensure adherence to time and attendance guidelines and labor laws
- Collaborate with internal ASPCA partners to support organizational priorities
- Supervise security and custodial contractors for a safe and clean environment
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance with the Facilities team
- Work with inter-agency partners to achieve ASPCA priorities in the region
- Represent the ASPCA and CM’s work to external partners as needed
Requirements
- Highly motivated self-starter capable of leading a large and complex operation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to synthesize complex information
- Proven history of building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to respond to shifting priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, online calendar, and email
- Experience leading and coaching people managers
- Ability to work with behaviorally and/or medically compromised animals and support staff in humane euthanasia situations
- Fear Free® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 5 years of combined professional work experience in public-facing services industries
- Minimum of 3 years managing in a veterinary clinic environment strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years managing direct reports required
- Minimum of 3 years managing managers/supervisors strongly preferred
- Budgeting and managing operating expenses experience preferred
- English required; bilingual (fluent in Spanish or other language) a plus
