Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Job Description
Oak Animal Hospital is a thriving 3-doctor practice with a long-standing reputation in the community. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the doctors are passionate about mentoring veterinary students and new DVMs.
About the Role
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in various aspects of general practice, including:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical exams
- Creating treatment plans
- Diagnostics
- Dentistry services
- Observing or assisting in surgical procedures
- Medical management of patients
Additionally, students will practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Responsibilities
The duration of externships ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on the schedules of both the student and the hospital.
Requirements
Externships are available to 4th-year veterinary students. Students must be in the clinical portion of their education and eligible for a travel/living expense stipend of $500.
