Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

At ABQ Petcare Hospital, 4th-year veterinary students can expect to be involved in more advanced surgeries, including nephrectomies and liver lobectomies, based on the hospital's current needs. The hospital does not perform orthopedic surgeries.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasounds and scopes
• Assist with referrals from other clinics in the area
• Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dental services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage medical care for patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Qualifications

Veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Those in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. For details on the stipend amounts and program, click HERE.
