Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarian
• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Diagnose and perform diagnostics
• Provide dental services
• Assist or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical care for patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Requirements

• Final year of veterinary education
• State of Alaska veterinary student permit required
• Travel/living expense stipend available for students in the clinical portion of their education

Qualifications

Students with an interest in practicing in Alaska post-graduation will be given top priority consideration for rotations.

Skills

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a passion for animal health and welfare.
