About the role
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarian
- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical exams
- Create treatment plans
- Diagnose and perform diagnostics
- Provide dental services
- Assist or perform surgical procedures
- Manage medical care for patients
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Requirements
- Final year of veterinary education
- State of Alaska veterinary student permit required
- Travel/living expense stipend available for students in the clinical portion of their education
Qualifications
Students with an interest in practicing in Alaska post-graduation will be given top priority consideration for rotations.
Skills
Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a passion for animal health and welfare.
