Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will provide students with the opportunity to understand daily operations and gain hands-on clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians
• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Diagnose and perform diagnostics
• Provide dental services
• Assist or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical care for patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Qualifications

Veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate. Students must be enrolled in a veterinary program and in the clinical portion of their education. Eligible students may receive a travel/living expense stipend.

Benefits

Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. Housing may be available in some instances.
