About the role

This externship provides veterinary students with hands-on experience in high-level equine sports medicine within a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in lameness examinations and diagnostic procedures using digital x-ray and ultrasound.
  • Participate in the administration of various regenerative medicine treatments such as stem cell therapy, Alpha 2 EQ, PRP, IRAP, Pro Stride, and laser therapy.
  • Support acupuncture sessions and other alternative therapies.
  • Observe and assist in the management of a variety of equine cases, including but not limited to hunter/jumpers, dressage, eventing, and pleasure horses.
  • Collaborate with the medical team to develop and implement treatment plans for complex cases.
  • Assist in the coordination of client appointments and emergency care services.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled veterinary student.
  • Strong academic record and commitment to equine medicine.
  • Passionate about learning and applying new techniques in equine sports medicine.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule

Normal business hours are 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday. Emergency services are provided 24 hours a day to clients on the Peninsula.
