Veterinary Extern - Equine

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA Equine hospital will provide students with practical experience in an independent equine practice. Students will work alongside veterinarians and interns to gain experience in various areas including lameness diagnosis and treatment, client communication skills, reproductive care, surgery, emergency medicine, imaging, ambulatory, dentistry, and preventive medicine.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside veterinarians and interns
• Gain experience with lameness diagnosis and treatment
• Gain experience with client communication skills
• Gain experience with reproductive care
• Gain experience with surgery
• Gain experience with emergency medicine
• Gain experience with imaging
• Gain experience with ambulatory care
• Gain experience with dentistry
• Gain experience with preventive medicine
• Auxiliary support for out-patient and hospitalized cases during business hours and after-hours emergencies

Requirements

Previous equine experience is required. Current veterinary students, regardless of class year, are eligible to apply, though preference may be given to fourth-year students.
