Veterinary Criticalist
About the role
Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina is seeking a Criticalist to join their Emergency & Critical Care Service. They are the only 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital in coastal North Carolina with a high caseload of critically ill and injured patients. The ideal candidate will work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and team-oriented environment with a focus on excellent patient care and communication with clients and referring veterinarians.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency and critical care services to a diverse caseload of animals
- Collaborate with specialists in surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation, ophthalmology, and radiology
- Utilize state-of-the-art equipment including an MRI, 2 digital radiography units, ultrasound, a 118-slice GE CT scanner, flexible endoscopy, Snyder oxygen cage banks, full in-house IDEXX lab systems, arthroscopy, and a ForceTriad Electrosurgical Unit
- Participate in paid studies through Ethos Science’s research branch
Requirements
- Board-certified in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine
- Experience in a 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- Current license to practice veterinary medicine in North Carolina
- Passing score on the AVMA ACVECC board certification exam

Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays.
