Pay

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system. A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.

About the role

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. They will utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters in cephalic veins, perform physical exams, count vital signs, and understand normal vital parameters. They will also administer and monitor subcutaneous fluids, operate intravenous fluid pumps, and monitor patient responses to fluid therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Utilize ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters in cephalic veins.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
  • Able to set up and disconnect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Maintain patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
  • Rotating on-call schedule required after training.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with clients and staff.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to lift and move patients as needed.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using intravenous fluid pumps.
  • Ability to monitor patient responses to fluid therapy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

$17.50 - 25.00 / hour
