About the role

PawMed Veterinary Urgent Care in Charleston, SC, is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our growing urgent care team. We offer predictable scheduling with schedules released 1–2 months in advance, a collaborative, supportive team environment, and opportunities to work with a new surgeon as surgical services expand.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients and identify urgent medical needs
  • Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture
  • Administer medications
  • Monitor hospitalized patients
  • Safely restrain dogs and cats during examinations and treatments
  • Assist doctors with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
  • Support daily operations at both our Charleston and Summerville locations
  • Work alongside our growing surgical and urgent care teams

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of Veterinary Assistant experience
  • Previous urgent care experience required
  • Proficient with IV catheter placement
  • Confident performing blood draws
  • Experience monitoring hospitalized patients
  • Strong patient assessment and triage skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of veterinary experience, with ER or high-volume experience preferred
  • The ability to stay calm, composed, and efficient during a medical crisis
  • Confidence and skill in handling pets, with proficiency in basic laboratory, pharmacy, and nursing skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
  • A flexible schedule, with availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
