Job Description
The Veterinary Technician Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional patient care and client service. This role is integral to maintaining a smooth hospital workflow, ensuring patient comfort, and assisting with medical treatments and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient handling, restraint, and medical treatments.
- Place and maintain intravenous catheters (IVCs) under supervision.
- Absorb and apply chemotherapy handling and administration training under supervision.
- Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ensuring proper sanitation and organization.
- Monitor, feed, and walk hospitalized patients; report changes in condition promptly.
- Support patient admissions, discharges, and transfers within the hospital.
- Absorb and apply sample collection, diagnostic imaging, and lab work training as instructed.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure appropriate documentation of treatments.
- Restock and inventory medical and chemotherapy supplies as directed.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, including radiation and chemotherapy protocols.
- Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients and clients.
- Actively participate in ongoing education and department training.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma is required.
- Experience as a Veterinary Assistant with at least 2 years of experience is preferred.
- Proficiency or willingness to train in IVC placement and chemotherapy handling.
- Strong animal restraint and patient-care skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to thrive under pressure and make informed decisions in fast-paced situations.
- A genuine passion for animal care and a commitment to patient well-being.
- Fluency in English (speaking & reading) is required for the role; fluency in multiple languages is a plus!
