Veterinary Assistant
Are you ready to find your groove in a place where great medicine and genuinely good people go hand-in-hand? At Sagamore Animal Hospital in coastal Rye, NH, we’re looking for a Veterinary Assistant who loves being part of patient care and thrives on teamwork, trust, and a little everyday humor. If you’re the kind of assistant who jumps in wherever needed, keeps things running smoothly on busy days, and never misses a chance to comfort a nervous patient with a gentle touch — you’ll fit right in here.
About the role
We’re a well-established, community-focused hospital that takes pride in practicing thoughtful, high-quality medicine without losing the personal touch. Our team is collaborative, supportive, and big on helping each other grow — professionally and personally. The culture here hits that sweet spot: experienced, down-to-earth, and genuinely kind. We work hard, communicate openly, and celebrate the small wins (like a smooth surgery day or a tail wag from a once-spicy patient). Our clients trust us because they know we treat their pets with the same care and respect we’d want for our own.
Responsibilities
- Support patient care from start to finish — safely restraining pets, assisting with exams, and helping keep things calm and efficient
- Assist with procedures and treatments, including preparing rooms, instruments, and patients
- Collect samples, run basic diagnostics, and help maintain accurate medical records
- Support surgery and dentistry days with patient prep, monitoring support, and recovery care
- Keep the hospital clean, organized, and running smoothly behind the scenes
- Be a friendly, reassuring presence for both pets and their people
Requirements
- Previous veterinary assistant experience preferred (but we’ll train the right person with great instincts and attitude)
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
- A team player who communicates clearly and jumps in to help
- Someone who stays calm, organized, and positive — even on busy days
- A genuine love for animals and the people who care for them
Benefits
- Competitive pay based on experience
- Health, dental, and vision insurance (full time)
- Paid time off + holidays
- Employee pet care discounts
- 401(k) with company match (if applicable)
- Growth opportunities
