Veterinary Assistant

Powell Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This position offers a competitive starting salary of $16 - $18/hour, with potential for negotiation based on experience and credentials. Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end care for patients, including outpatient treatments, laboratory tests, and support services like admitting and discharging patients.
- Support veterinarians and the medical team to enhance productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
- Safely restrain patients and assist with exams and procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed.
- Absorb and relay relevant health history and information from clients.
- Maintain medical charts and perform tasks such as venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiographs, and lab work.
- Assist with hospitalized patient care, including monitoring and comfort measures.
- Support surgical and dental procedures, including dental radiographs.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
- Perform in-house lab testing and prepare samples for reference labs.
- Take and assist with diagnostic radiographs (including positioning and safety).
- Assist with surgical prep, sterile set-up, and patient recovery.
- Monitor anesthesia and maintain patient safety.
- Support post-operative care, including pain management, monitoring, and discharge education.
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding treatment plans, estimates, and next steps.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and restocking of exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Follow infection control and safety protocols.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of clinical experience.
- Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiographs, and lab work.

- Willingness and ability to support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients regarding treatment plans, estimates, and next steps.
