Position Purpose
The Veterinary Assistant role at Petco is about providing top-notch medical care and exceptional customer service. You'll be part of a team that fosters a positive environment for both patients and clients.
- Greet clients and patients, escort them to exam rooms, and record vital signs.
- Assist veterinarians with various procedures, including surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasia.
- Perform patient restraint, collect lab samples, and administer medications.
- Prepare patients for procedures, monitor them during recovery, and ensure safe hospital discharge or transfer.
- Support in training new staff members and disseminating knowledge.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized hospital environment.
- Provide backup support as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility
No immediate supervisory duties.
Education/Experience
- At least 1 year of previous veterinary practice experience or relevant animal care experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate and sympathetic, with a professional demeanor.
- Strong telephone and computer skills.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and adapt to change.
Work Environment
Majority of job duties are conducted in the Veterinary Hospital.
