Veterinary Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Purcell, OK. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing excellent care to our animal patients. This role involves assisting with daily clinical tasks, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and ensuring a positive experience for both pets and their owners.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and treatments.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely.
• Prepare treatment areas and equipment for procedures.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff.
• Clean and sterilize instruments, cages, and work areas.
• Maintain accurate patient records and assist with data entry.
• Provide compassionate care and comfort to animals during their visit.
• Aid in client communication and education regarding pet care.
• Support inventory management by restocking supplies and notifying staff of shortages.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a veterinary or animal care setting preferred but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to handle animals of various sizes and temperaments safely.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills for record keeping and scheduling.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This position involves working in a veterinary clinic setting with exposure to animals, cleaning agents, and medical equipment. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting animals or equipment up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive tasks.
