Veterinarian

Role Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive veterinary care for research animals
• Perform clinical examinations, diagnostics, treatments, anesthesia, and surgical procedures as needed
• Monitor animal health and welfare throughout research protocols
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide urgent care
• Work closely with the Attending Veterinarian to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations
• Collaborate with the IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) on protocol review and compliance
• Ensure adherence to regulatory standards
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
• Rotating on call schedule for weekends and holidays

Key Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
• Active veterinary license in California or obtain licensure within 6 months of hire
• 3+ years of experience working in a research setting, preferably with neuro experience
• Knowledge of IACUC processes and experience in protocol authorship and review
• Strong technical and surgical skills with a hands-on approach
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Able to work independently and make sound clinical decisions
• Flexibility to respond to emergencies and changing research needs
