Veterans Employment Specialist
About the Role
The Employment Specialist for Veteran Services conducts client intake interviews to assess needs for employment services, housing, and other community services, ensuring a comprehensive approach to support. This role assists veterans with employment counseling, interviews, placement, and job leads, facilitating their path to stable employment. The specialist also provides job postings and employment resources to qualified veterans, including placement and follow-up. A deep commitment to serving veterans and a genuine desire to see them succeed is essential for this position, which is dedicated to creating empowering and supportive environments.

Responsibilities
- Review grant and reporting requirements.
- Complete training on HVRP Standard Operating Procedures and all other required trainings.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with community resources that provide client support and employment outcomes.
- Facilitate HVRP evaluations with veterans to determine employment goals and the services and supports needed to achieve them.
- Collaborate with veterans to develop Individualized Employment and Job Training Plans.
- Provide comprehensive, job-driven case management to ensure the provision of both general and specialized training (either directly or through referral).
- Assist with employment counseling, interviews, placement, and job leads.
- Provide job postings and employment resources to qualified veterans, including placement.
- Facilitate enrollment in SD DLR/AJC services as needed.
- Maintain client files and update progress.
- Provide monthly reports on outcomes related to employment goals.
- Contact veterans to collect necessary follow-up data.
- Provide employment adjustment services to aid in job retention.
- Review program performance data and participate in quality improvement efforts as needed.
- Carry out other duties as assigned to support program operations and goals.
- Ensure dual enrollment with the Department of Labor for homeless veterans and refer those not currently signed up to receive services from the VA.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Two years of related work experience.
- Military service or experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and employment-related skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend on a daily basis.
- Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs on a daily basis.
