About the role
This position is a “designated position” meaning this position could potentially be required to work (depending on the event) during an emergency closing.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for students using VA education benefits (500+ students)
- Serve as the primary School Certifying Official
- Provide consultation and guidance to students using VA education benefits
- Be a liaison between students and the Veterans Affairs Administration
- Review claims for such benefits
- Submit certifications/verifications each semester
- Aid students with questions related to VA benefits, in-person, over the phone, and via email
- Work independently on the day-to-day operations of addressing the needs associated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefits, Federal policies, and state and institutional policies and regulations as related to students of military families
- Prepare records for state and federal audits (VA Compliance Surveys) as requested by the Assistant Registrar and Manager of Veterans Affairs Education benefits
- Review data to ensure program and student eligibility and report any discrepancies as appropriate
- Interpret and communicate complex University policies and federal laws, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
- Use independent decision-making and problem-solving within complex guidelines
- Assist in other areas of the Office of the Registrar as needed
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
- Experience working in a customer service related field
- Experience with recordkeeping and/or documentation

- Ability to interpret and communicate complex policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with and provide excellent customer service to a diverse population
- Strong computer skills for data entry tasks, account reconciliation, and business correspondence with a keen attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google products
- Strong oral and written interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
