About the Role

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking an experienced recruiter to join our team and assist in expanding our military veteran outreach. This position focuses on recruiting prospective employees, particularly former and transitioning service members. You will act as a central point of contact and liaison with military installations and veteran support organizations, representing NNS at veteran events and career fairs.

The role is fast-paced and involves multi-tasking, including reviewing applications, conducting interviews, extending formal job offers, and supporting candidates through the pre-employment process. We prioritize a positive candidate experience and seek a communicator who can highlight why NNS is the employer of choice for the next generation of shipbuilders.

You will develop connections with candidates and stakeholders to efficiently achieve goals, work collaboratively in a team setting, and solve problems with a sense of urgency. Critical thinking and responsiveness are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews to recruit prospective employees and refer job applicants to specific job openings.
  • Evaluate employment factors such as job experience, education, training, skills, knowledge, abilities, physical and personal qualifications, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare ratings on applicants, make recommendations on starting salaries, and provide applicants with company information.
  • Administer tests, interpret results, check references, arrange transportation for selected applicants, and extend formal job offers.
  • Work with outside agencies, vendors, and veteran organizations to build connections and represent NNS at events.
  • Support candidates through the pre-employment process and maintain a positive candidate experience.

Requirements

Must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • Master’s Degree and 8 years of relevant professional experience.
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate or Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree).
  • Associate’s Degree or other formal 2-year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience.
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience.
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant exempt experience.
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant non-exempt experience.

Nice to Have

  • Prior military service and experience navigating service member transition agencies.
  • Willingness to complete all required actions to gain access to military installations.

Pay

Salary range: $107,000.00 to $134,000.00. The anticipated range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
