Venture Studio Fellowship

Brief Description

The NJII Venture Studio Fellowship is a selective, part-time program for NJIT PhD students and postdoctoral researchers interested in translating research into real-world impact. Fellows work alongside the Venture Studio team to evaluate university technologies, explore commercial applications, and support the formation of new ventures based on NJIT and partner institution IP.

Essential Functions

• Technology and Market Assessment: Evaluate invention disclosures, patents, and research outputs for technical feasibility, novelty, and market potential. Conduct competitive landscaping and IP positioning analyses.
• Commercialization Strategy: Support development of go-to-market plans, customer discovery efforts, and early product-market fit hypotheses.
• Business Model Development: Help articulate business models, pricing strategies, and value propositions tailored to each technology domain.
• Financial and Investment Analysis: Assist in early financial modeling, TAM/SAM/SOM sizing, and identifying comparable transactions or venture precedents.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Work to make connections with industry experts to provide feedback on the potential commercial value of technology/concepts.
• Opportunity Readiness: Contribute to materials such as pitch decks, one-pagers, and venture briefs to prepare technologies for investment consideration.

Prerequisite Qualifications

• Education/Degree Required: Current PhD student or Postdoctoral researcher at NJIT
• Years of Experience Required: 0 Years
• Knowledge/Skills Required: Familiarity with technology commercialization, startup operations, or venture financing. Strong analytical and research skills. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. Self-starter with curiosity about early-stage innovation and entrepreneurship.

Salary Information

In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency law, the hourly rate for this position is $20.00. NJII considers factors like, but not limited to, job scope, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions when making offers. This pay range covers base pay only and excludes bonuses or other incentives.
