About the role
The department may hire at either the Vehicle Operator I or Vehicle Operator II level based on business need and budget.
Responsibilities
- Operate a shuttle bus and smaller passenger vehicles.
- Provide transit service to the campus community along fixed routes and scheduled ADA service.
- Load and secure wheelchair passengers using wheelchair lifts and tie-downs.
- Inspect equipment daily for damage, equipment failures, and safety items; complete the Daily Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
- Drive time-sensitive routes punctually and report to work on time.
- Arrive in uniform no less than 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift.
- Follow shutdown procedures, clean buses, and empty garbage.
- Maintain safe, courteous, and professional conduct.
- Sit for long periods and stand as needed.
- Instruct others of lesser classification in operating heavy vehicles and equipment as directed.
- Perform clean-up service to maintain a pleasant environment for the University community.
Requirements
- Vehicle Operator I: Little to no related experience required. Paid CDL training and testing provided.
- Vehicle Operator II: At least 1 year of related experience and 1 year of CDL experience.
- One year of higher education may substitute for one year of directly related work experience.
Preferences
- Previous bus driving experience highly preferred.
- Excellent familiarity with connecting UTA and TRAX routes.
Pay
- Vehicle Operator I: $20.00–$21.00/hour
- Vehicle Operator II: $22.00/hour
