Status: Full-Time - Winter or Summer Seasonal

About the Role

The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of mountain operational equipment, including snowcats, snowmobiles, buses, plow trucks, sanding trucks, 4x4 pickups, and heavy machinery. This role supports grooming operations vital to Mission Ridge’s ski product and requires a hands-on, safety-conscious, and collaborative individual.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance on all Mission Ridge operational vehicles and machinery.
  • Collaborate with all mountain departments to ensure equipment readiness.
  • Identify and repair reported and observed mechanical issues through troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of on-the-job mechanical experience.
  • Basic technical training in automotive or heavy equipment repair (strongly preferred).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems using hand, power, and specialized tools.
  • Basic metalworking and fabrication skills (helpful for in-house repairs).
  • Strong communication skills for working closely with grooming staff and equipment operators.
  • Basic computer and office skills or willingness to learn them.
  • Must maintain a friendly attitude and assist with occasional minor guest vehicle issues.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and machine controls.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to hold and operate hand tools.

This role requires solving practical problems in a hands-on setting and occasionally working in uncomfortable conditions such as dark, cold, snowy, muddy, hot, dusty, or greasy environments.

Work Environment

  • Work near moving mechanical equipment and on uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to airborne particles, loud noise, outdoor weather conditions, and potentially hazardous chemicals.

  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Frequently (34–66%) – Ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Regularly (67–100%) – Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Regularly (67–100%) – Must be able to hold and operate hand tools.
