Vehicle Mechanic - Year Round

About the Role

As a Vehicle Mechanic at Winter Park Resort, you will repair, service, recondition, overhaul, and maintain vehicles, equipment, and their components in the Winter Park Fleet. You may be placed in one of the following specialties: Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Auto & Truck Mechanic, or Small Equipment Mechanic.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs as assigned by the Equipment Shop Foreman/Fleet Maintenance Foreman.
• Assist Master Mechanics as directed.
• Safely transport vehicles or equipment to the shop.
• Estimate expected repair time and costs.
• Complete work orders and other required paperwork.
• Notify the appropriate department upon completion of repairs.
• Wear required safety equipment and maintain a clean, orderly workstation.
• Report and correct unsafe conditions of vehicles, equipment, or shop when possible.
• Complete work promptly with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Maintain a friendly, helpful attitude while interacting with guests and employees.
• Assist vehicle and equipment users with mechanical and operational procedures.
• Assist the Foreman with paperwork and update scheduled maintenance tags or notices.
• Stay current and informed on topics related to vehicle and equipment maintenance.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of formal training or demonstrated skill in one or more of the following: auto mechanics, diesel mechanics, auto electrical systems, hydraulics, test equipment, or basic welding.
• Two years of on-the-job experience in any or all of the above areas.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Proficiency with shop tools, equipment, testing instruments, computer analyzers, and all area vehicles and equipment (including over-snow vehicles, wheeled vehicles, chainsaws, and pumps).
• Experience with gasoline and diesel engines, power and hand tools, arc and gas welding, cutting torches, paint sprayers, and precision/electrical instruments.
• Familiarity with work order forms and safety equipment (e.g., earplugs, hearing protection).
• Current First Aid card is desirable.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Stand for over 2/3 of the time; walk for 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; sit for less than 1/3 of the time.
• Move up to 75 lbs. (e.g., tracks, parts, oil barrels) for 1/3 of the time.
• Carry up to 50 lbs. (e.g., parts) for less than 1/3 of the time.
• Push/pull up to 75 lbs. for 1/3 of the time.
• Climb/hike (e.g., ladders, stairs to parts room) for less than 1/3 of the time.
• Balance on icy terrain for less than 1/3 of the time (e.g., outside repairs).
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for over 2/3 of the time (e.g., repairs).
• Reach, handle, finger, or feel for over 2/3 of the time (e.g., small and large tools, parts).
• Communicate in loud noise environments for 1/3 of the time.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $25 - $35, depending on experience.
