About the Role

ACV Auctions is looking for an enthusiastic Inspector who has a knack for cars and wants to join a growing company. Our Inspectors are the face of our company—they know a ton about cars, love to talk about them, and explain details to clients in an understandable way. They work tirelessly to ensure our clients receive the best service, embodying our values of Trust, Transparency, Credibility, and Customer Service.

Responsibilities

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Partner with a Territory Manager and a team of Inspectors to conduct inspections of vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease locations to detect damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems.
  • Prepare and submit reports of vehicle condition, repair/replacement cost estimates, and related documentation.
  • Help the sales team up-sell or cross-sell services and products.
  • Interface regularly with dealers to ensure client satisfaction and build strong relationships.
  • Travel to and from dealerships and homes to inspect vehicles, write condition reports, and list vehicles for sale on the auction platform.
  • Take multiple, overall, and damage photos, match them to a vehicle, and upload them to the image server using a company-issued smartphone.
  • List inspected wholesale vehicles on the ACV Auctions platform for bidding and purchasing.
  • Sign up independent dealerships as buyers to utilize the ACV Auctions digital platform.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in the automobile field (body, paint, and mechanical repair knowledge) with a customer service background.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Problem-solving aptitude to meet challenges with resourcefulness and innovative approaches.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and meet customer needs and expectations.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a validly registered and insured motor vehicle.
  • Knowledge of system capabilities, job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including standing for extended periods, lifting 25+ lbs, bending, and squatting.
  • Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Vision abilities required to properly identify small defects around and underneath vehicles.

Pay

The hourly compensation range for this position is listed in the "Job Details" section of the posting. This role is also eligible for additional compensation under ACV’s incentive plan, with the average monthly incentive earned by inspectors in this territory in 2025 being $1,496. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skillset, location, business needs, market demands, and performance (for incentive pay).
