VCS Substitute Teacher
Maintains Discipline and Classroom Control
Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
Safeguarding Students and Facilities
- Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Oversee students outside of the classroom including in the hallways, recess, and cafeteria.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Reporting and Communication
- Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention.
- Requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
Lesson Planning and Instruction
- Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
- Organizes students for effective instruction.
Building Dismissal and Administrative Tasks
- Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
- Completes a Substitute Teacher Report for the regular classroom teacher.
- Collections and places students’ papers in assigned area.
- Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
Compliance and Support
- Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: Sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, crawling, stooping, walking, and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; Manual dexterity with the use of hands, fingers to feel objects, tools, and controls; Sighted with color, peripheral, near, and far vision; Hearing and speaking; Excellent English communication skills.
