About the Role
Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry, specializing in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Britt, Iowa facility is an egg processing plant focused on breaking, pasteurization, and dried egg production. As the Tanker Bay Person, you will transfer edible liquid egg while ensuring compliance with USDA and company specifications. This role includes monitoring and documenting tanks and tankers, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, and cross-training in inedible tanker bay duties for proper removal of shells and inedible product.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with USDA for tanker cleaning and liquid egg transfers for shipment.
- Document and inspect incoming tankers for cleanliness, temperature, and smell; take corrective action as needed.
- Record details on the Tanker Receiving Log, including date, product type, USDA Certificate number, supplier, and total pounds received.
- Take samples to the lab for testing and control egg flow via computer panels and piping systems.
- Set up transfers by connecting sanitized hoses to tankers and unloading product to designated silos or tanks.
- Ensure tanks and tankers are cleaned using the Clean in Place (CIP) System.
- Communicate edible egg transfers to the Cooked Department and assist in coordinating tanker shipments.
- Mix liquid egg product with ingredients and control bulk chemical receiving.
- Maintain general housekeeping for the area and assist in other areas, including the mixing room, as needed.
- Monitor augers, machinery, and chemical pumps in the shell room to ensure proper operation.
- Clean transfer room floors, machinery, and tankers; manage bad egg barrels.
- Perform data entry and complete required paperwork.
- Fill in at all positions in the transfer room as needed.
- Adhere to safe work practices, GMP, HACCP, and sanitary conditions to maintain SQF Level 3 certification.
- Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, quality, or personnel safety.
- Ensure a safe and healthy workplace by following all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification or ability to obtain it.
- Valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
- Approximately 1 year of experience in the Breaking Department with cross-training in the tanker bay area under close supervision.
- Knowledge of production flow, mixing, USDA and company standards, CIP systems, and the tanker bay area.
- Strong mechanical ability and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with others.
- Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety regulations, including wearing proper PPE.
- Ability to work in a wet environment with changing temperatures, both indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. safely and follow Lock Out/Tag Out and Confined Space Entry procedures.
- Ability to climb onto tankers using a safety harness and work with chemicals safely.
