Job Responsibilities
- Affirms patient status
- Affirms patient IV status upon referral and throughout hospitalization
- Affirms patient/family's complex learning needs related to IV access and therapy
- Affirms the multisystem effects of disease processes on patient and offers appropriate IV access
- Affirms age specific needs using knowledge of growth and development
- Plans the delivery of IV access for patients in coordination with the healthcare team
- Develops and revises individualized plans of care related to IV access & device types that address complex and age specific, physical, psychosocial, and learning needs of each patient/family
- Establishes priorities for caseload and guides others
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary resources for complex cases
- Involves the patient and family in decision-making relating to long-term access devices
- Evaluates patient/family progress toward identified outcomes related to IV therapy
- Implements nursing and prescribed medical interventions and evaluates patient/family response to treatment
- Expedites the delivery of appropriate IV therapy throughout the hospital for complex patient access
- Takes appropriate nursing action in emergencies
- Guides others through the use of formal/informal communication systems
- Participates in the implementation of patient/family teaching plans related to IV therapy
- Facilitates and documents patient/family information in a clear, concise and accurate manner
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the IV nursing plan of care
- Evaluates patient/family progress toward identified outcomes
- Contributes to teamwork within the team/division of nursing
- Reconfigures IV staff assignments to maximize the use of staff
- Serves as resource during change process
- Facilitates achievement of team/division goals
- Presents inservices and functions as a resource in area of clinical expertise
- Collaborates in the quality improvement process by collecting and analyzing data for specific projects, as delegated
- Maintains compliance with standards set by regulatory groups such as IDPH, JCAHO, etc. with regard to IV services and infection control
- Supports the Rush mission
Qualifications
- Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing
- Minimum two years previous PICC experience
- Knowledge of current IV therapies and access devices
- Analytical and critical thinking ability
- Excellent IV, PICC, Central Line, Midline insertion skills
- Demonstrate proficiency in the insertion of PIV with the use of ultrasound guidance
- Communication skill is required in order to lead, teach, and motivate others
- Interacts effectively with others in difficult situations
- Current BLS certification
- Vascular Access Board Certified, VA-BC required and/or Certified Registered Nurse Infusionist, CRNI
- Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, PICC certificate
