VAR Operator- 2nd Shift

Responsibilities

• Follow standard manufacturing and operating procedures (75% of required knowledge is learned on the job).
• Perform pre-operative checks prior to and during pump down cycle using pre-pump and start-up checklists.
• Set up and operate equipment furnace(s) for melting, including:
  • Inspecting and preparing electrodes for melting.
  • Bleeding water and vacuum systems.
  • Grinding electrodes, stubs, and copper stools.
  • Cleaning, painting, and maintaining crucibles and base plates.
  • Loading electrodes.
  • Operating water and vacuum systems.
  • Operating furnace controls and instrumentation.
  • Remelting electrodes.
  • Cooling, loading, unloading, identifying, and weighing ingots.
• Interpret video monitors, gauges, meters, etc., while operating the VAR furnace(s).
• Maintain operating records and logs.
• Maintain material and maintenance needed lists.
• Perform leak-up rate tests to determine vacuum integrity.
• Clean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles and replace damaged components.
• Operate leak detectors.
• Use various hand and power tools as directed.
• Perform maintenance to ensure good operating condition of furnace(s) and auxiliary equipment such as electrical, electronic, vacuum, pneumatic, and cooling systems.
• Support other departments as needed per production demands.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent is required; trade school or additional training preferred.
• 3 years of working experience in a relevant environment.
• Vacuum Arc titanium melting experience is a plus.

Skills

• Mechanically inclined with basic math skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Capable of working in a group.
• Ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds.
• Experience with heavy rigging, piping; forklift and crane-operating experience highly preferred.
• Ability to think quickly and take action.
• Ability to wear a respirator.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Strong learning aptitude.
