About the role

Located in scenic Honesdale, PA, the Wayne County Transportation Department is seeking dependable, compassionate drivers to provide essential door‑to‑door transportation for county residents. The role helps seniors and other community members get to appointments, services, and daily activities while offering friendly, reliable support.

Responsibilities

• Safe Driving: Operate a county vehicle averaging approximately 150 miles per day while transporting senior adults and wheelchair‑dependent individuals.
• Door‑to‑Door Service: Assist consumers with boarding, exiting, and navigating uneven or unpaved pathways, ensuring safety, dignity, and comfort.
• Communication: Maintain effective communication with consumers, dispatch, and agency staff through person‑to‑person interaction and two‑way radio operation.
• Record Keeping: Use electronic tablets and approved technology to access schedules, document transportation services, and complete required program records.

Work Schedule

Part‑time employment, 14–21+ hours per week. Transportation operates 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with limited hours on Saturdays. Telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of employment requiring operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with no suspensions in the past three years.
• Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.
• Pass a background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening.
• Compliance with Child Protective Services Law, including submission of PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
