About the role
The 7D Van Driver is responsible for pupil transportation needs of a high quality Afterschool program which will include promoting YMCA core values and encourage lifelong learning.
Responsibilities
- Manages 7D vehicle ensuring compliance in all related areas including the Department of Transportation regulations for School Pupil Transport to 7D Vehicles, Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) licensing procedures and regulations.
- Provide reasonable accommodations to allow children with disabilities whenever possible and to meet each child’s individual needs according to EEC and ADA.
- Transport children according to SSYMCA requirements from school to the Quincy Afterschool program sites.
- Routine upkeep of YMCA vehicles; including but not limited to refueling, basic operational checks and completing required forms of documentation, Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections, maintaining interior cleanliness and scheduled 7D spring/fall inspection/annual vehicle inspections.
- Communicate clearly with SSYMCA Afterschool Director and Site Coordinators to facilitate timely pick-ups and drop-offs and to manage children using positive guidance techniques in the vehicle.
- Directly supervises program participants in accordance with the organization's policies, EEC regulations, applicable laws, and 7D compliance.
- Monitor and communicate with supervisor all related vehicle requirements.
- Builds relationships with school liaisons and creates a supportive community environment connecting families to the YMCA’s cause.
- Works with Afterschool Director to ensure assigned vehicle and equipment are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and in compliance.
- Engages and supervises volunteers.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
Qualifications
- Must have an excellent driving record, obtain or have a 7D or school bus license.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, have a Driver’s License for at least 3 years.
- Knowledge of MA driving rules and regulations.
- Must possess effective leadership skills and crisis management skills.
- First Aid and CPR certifications must be valid prior to driving.
- The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with, staff, children & families, volunteers, school administrators are critical to the position.
- The ability to implement methods to address and follow up with needs/concerns in a positive and professional way reflecting an attitude that values diversity.
