Van Driver
Position Summary
The Van Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and respectful transportation of patients between designated locations, facilities, and the hospital campus. This role ensures patient safety and supervision at all times while maintaining confidentiality, dignity, and professionalism during transport. The Van Driver maintains accurate daily records of mileage and fuel usage, submits all fuel receipts as required, and tracks vehicle mileage to support routine maintenance scheduling. Additionally, the Van Driver ensures the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and presentable for patient transport, promptly reporting any maintenance or safety concerns in accordance with organizational guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Safely transport patients between approved locations in a timely manner, following assigned schedules and routes as authorized by the appropriate supervisor.
- Employ appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed, in accordance with organizational policies and training.
- Maintain continuous supervision of patients during transport, ensuring safety, professionalism, and respect for patient dignity at all times.
- Protect patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
- Operate only equipment for which training has been completed and ensure vehicles and equipment are used in a safe and responsible manner.
- Monitor vehicle condition, promptly documenting and reporting mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns to the manager.
- Report all accidents, incidents, observed safety risks, or identified "hot spots" immediately to the supervisor or manager.
- Maintain accurate transportation knowledge, including learning and remembering designated pickup locations, destinations, and approved routes.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- One year previous experience working in a psychiatric health care facility preferred.
- One year of patient transportation experience highly preferred.
- CPR certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
- De-escalation certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.

Work Environment And Travel Requirements
- In hospital/behavioral health environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to bloodborne pathogens and/or contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials which may require extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment.
- Noise level in the work environment is typical for a hospital environment.
