Description
Provides transportation services to passengers served by the department to ensure their safe transportation.
Examples of Duties
- Greets passengers and assists them entering and exiting the van and with luggage or packages.
- Transports passengers to their requested destinations within local and surrounding areas.
- Cleans and maintains the vehicle.
- Maintains effective working relationships with patrons.
- Monitors the passengers and enforces rules to ensure passengers’ safety.
Typical Qualifications
- Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimal related experience (less than 6 months) working with senior citizens preferred.
- Licenses And/or Certifications: Valid VA driver’s license required. First Aid and CPR certifications preferred.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of senior citizens’ and adults that have special needs, preferred. Knowledge of vehicle, radio communication system, and laws and regulations governing van operation.
- Skills: Customer service, oral and written communication skills. Skill in operating van and making minor repairs.

- Work Environment: Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
- Essential Physical Activities: Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, hearing, seeing -up close, seeing far away, kneeling, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Typical weight handled: up to 50 pounds.
