Responsibilities
- Assists residents with loading and unloading from facility-approved vehicles.
- Ensures the safe transportation of residents to scheduled medical appointments or other approved activities, resident outings, etc.
- Works with handicapped and elderly residents.
- Secures passengers’ wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trips.
- Assists disabled and/or elderly residents in and out of vehicles and buildings, including doctor’s offices.
- Assists all departments in the delivery and pick-up of related work items (e.g., x-rays, pharmaceuticals, medical records, mail) while maintaining HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintains the interior and exterior of facility vehicles to ensure safety, comfort, and a positive community image.
- Monitors vehicle maintenance logs and delivers vehicles for scheduled maintenance (e.g., oil changes, tire rotations).
- Upholds resident rights, including fair treatment, privacy, and self-determination; knocks before entering a resident’s room.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Texas Driver License in good standing (no more than one moving violation in three years, no accidents).
- Knowledge of the local geographical area.
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to remain calm and level-headed in emergencies.
- Professional appearance and ability to work harmoniously with others.
- Follows written and oral instructions.
- Maintains patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition when interacting with residents, staff, and visitors.
Working Conditions
- Travels locally to hospitals, physician offices, and other area locations.
- Works weekends and holidays as necessary.
- Subject to call-back during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, evacuations, post-disaster).
- Exposure to potential hazards, including falls, equipment burns, odors, dust, disinfectants, hazardous chemicals, tobacco smoke, and airborne contaminants.
- Subject to hostile or emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, or visitors.
- Exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions (e.g., Tuberculosis, AIDS, Hepatitis B).
