Van Chauffeur, Part Time Prob

About the role

This is transportation work driving a van for the School District. It is a split shift part time position with assignments that change daily. A van driver provides rapid response to students to and from school on a regularly scheduled route, alternate sites during the school day, after hours, and school sponsored athletic functions. Performs minor daily preventative maintenance to the van as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provides critical support to transportation operations.
• Drives a passenger van to a number of assigned routes, picking up and discharging students at designated locations.
• Transports students on field trips.
• Supervises or assists in the supervision of students' behavior while in the passenger van.
• Cleans and maintains the passenger van.
• May assist transportation mechanics in the daily maintenance of the passenger van, which may include checking batteries, radiators, and changing tires.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of:

• The principles of automotive equipment operation.
• The traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• The component parts of automotive vehicles and their functions.
• Computer based equipment.

Demonstrated ability to:

• Operate a vehicle safely and efficiently.
• Perform light manual tasks if required by work assignment.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Complete and maintain vehicle records.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment.

Schedule

Split shift, part time position with assignments that change daily. Regular employee; non-management; union affiliated.
