Vacuum Excavation Technician (CDL)

Starting pay is $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience.

About the role

As a Vacuum Excavation team member, you will travel to assigned work sites to perform vacuum excavation—also known as hydro-excavation, potholing, keyholing, or air-vac. This process involves soil extraction through vacuum when using pressurized water or air for breaking ground. The position requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and using a company-provided laptop to document projects. You will perform various vacuum excavation activities near utilities, including core drilling, shoveling, backfilling, and construction labor.

Responsibilities

• Perform vacuum excavation using pressurized water or air
• Travel to assigned work sites locally, with occasional out-of-area or overnight travel
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Document projects using a company-provided laptop
• Conduct core drilling, shoveling, backfilling, and construction labor near utilities
• Distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
• Read, understand, and reference locate tickets, maps, and prints
• Calculate distances using basic math skills
• Communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners

Requirements

• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions (previous outdoor experience is a plus)
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed
• Ability to travel locally during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be expected
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; CDL Position requires an A or B CDL
• Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain a DOT medical card
• Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position)
• Able to stand and walk for long periods on varying terrain, bend, stoop, and lift heavy items up to 75 lbs
• Computer proficiency
• Basic math skills to calculate distances
• Utility and/or construction experience preferred (not required)
• Customer service experience is a plus
