Position Summary
As a VA Attorney at Disability Law Group, you will represent veterans seeking disability benefits across all levels of the VA process, including hearings before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA).
Key Responsibilities
- Represent veterans in disability benefits claims and appeals
- Review medical and service records and develop legal strategies
- Prepare for and attend virtual or in-person BVA hearings
- Draft briefs, Nexus letters, legal arguments, and DBQs
- Lay out arguments for service connection, increased ratings, or effective date adjustments
- Communicate regularly with clients and Case Managers regarding case updates
- Use PageAI, VBMS, and Prevail to review and organize evidence efficiently
- Ensure all deadlines, compliance requirements, and filings are met
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with a state bar (Michigan preferred)
- Prior VA law experience or strong interest in disability advocacy
- Excellent legal writing, communication, and case management skills
- Comfort with digital tools and remote collaboration
- Commitment to timely, compassionate, and client-centered service
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience advocating for veterans or handling VA claims
- Extensive CAVC experience
- Experience working within the Michigan veteran community is highly preferred
Working Conditions
- Flexible remote OR hybrid work within Michigan depending on your location of residence
- Occasional travel within the state to meet with clients or attend meetings
- Ability to handle sensitive conversations with clients experiencing emotional or stressful situations
