UX Designer
About the role
A1 is building a proactive smart assistant for everyday users to bring intelligence to conversations, errands, organizing, and workflows with minimal prompting. Our product focuses on high reliability for long-running workflows, persistent context, and real-world task completion, handling multi-step reasoning and interactions with external tools despite non-deterministic model behavior. The goal is to help users complete tasks daily with over ~90% reduced time.
You will own the UX of A1's core app experience, designing end-to-end flows users go through every day—how they start tasks, follow along as the AI works, stay in control, and recover when something goes wrong. This is an HCI-focused role requiring deep understanding of both user needs and AI system behavior to create clear, reliable, and controllable product flows.
Responsibilities
- Own UX for A1's core app surfaces across iOS, Android, and web.
- Design complete user flows for AI-assisted tasks—from intent capture through task completion, including handoff, progress tracking, and error recovery.
- Design how the app surfaces AI actions, decisions, and user confirmations or adjustments.
- Map and design the full range of AI states users encounter: loading, thinking, acting, waiting, completing, stalling, failing, and recovering.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and ML teams to define user requirements and translate them into concrete design solutions.
- Conduct usability research to identify where users lose trust, feel uncertain, or disengage.
- Produce wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity designs ready for engineering implementation.
- Contribute to the design system and shared UX patterns for AI app surfaces.
- Design for both simple everyday interactions and complex multi-step AI workflows within the same product.
Requirements
- Experience as a UX designer on consumer mobile or web apps, with a strong portfolio.
- Solid skills in user flow design, wireframing, and high-fidelity prototyping in Figma.
- Ability to design for systems that are asynchronous, non-deterministic, and context-dependent.
- Clear thinking about user trust, control, feedback, and transparency in AI-driven product experiences.
- Experience conducting user research and translating findings into design decisions.
- Comfortable working in fast-moving teams with evolving product scope.
- Ability to balance simple consumer UX with complex AI system behavior.
- Strong judgment on usability, edge cases, failure handling, and recovery flows.
How we work
The best products are built by small, world-class teams. We operate with high talent density, make decisions collectively, and move at rapid speed—balancing high-quality work with learning. Joining our team requires the ability to bring structure, exercise judgment, and execute independently. Our goal is to deliver a truly magical product to users.
