Responsibilities

  • Supervise underwriting support staff in processing new and renewal insurance policies and maintaining agent records.
  • Document and communicate performance appraisals and address disciplinary issues.
  • Conduct interviews for new or replacement staff and provide new employee training.
  • Coach and provide career development advice to staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for department staff regarding procedures and processes.
  • Maintain department work flow to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Avoidance of complex or out-of-policy operational problems by assisting staff.
  • Coordinate with Accounting/Collection personnel on policy cancellations.
  • Evaluate, develop, recommend, and implement improvements to current departmental processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • 4 Year Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 6 Years of relevant and progressive Underwriting experience in specialty or related area.
  • A strong working knowledge of state laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company's business.
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).

  • Full HR responsibility for direct reports including making hiring decisions, training, coordinating work, establishing standards, reviewing work, conducting performance appraisals, and providing coaching or counseling.

Skills

  • Planning: Develop work plans, establish timelines, and set goals for assigned work unit.
  • Communication: Communicate team or group results to management and make appropriate recommendations. Prepare written and verbal presentations to convey information.
  • Cost Management: Drive improvement in existing business processes and assist in the identification and implementation of new processes. Assist in development and is accountable for budget for work unit.
  • Business Controls and Policies: Comply with all corporate policies and procedures. Identify control objectives for designated function and implement cost-effective controls designed to meet those objectives. Test controls to determine if they are performing as intended.
  • People Management: Has full HR responsibility for direct reports including making hiring decisions, training, coordinating work, establishing standards, reviewing work, conducting performance appraisals, and providing coaching or counseling.

Benefits

The pay range for this position is $69,500-$126,200 which includes geographic adjustments, where applicable. The pay range is the range THMCC, in good faith, believes is the range of compensation for this role at the time of this posting. The hired applicant will be offered pay within the entire range based on the candidate’s geographic location, qualifications, work experience, education, and/or skill level.
