UTQIAGVIK: Temporary Cook's Helper

About the Role

Assist in the preparation and service of food in a manner that will ensure nutritious meals and snacks, served at appropriate times, while safeguarding the health of students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in the production and service of palatable school meals.
• Participate in storage, clean up, and safety tasks.
• Operate the food service vehicles to deliver food and staff to and from the school sites.
• Expedite incoming and outgoing food to locations as required.
• Process incoming freight and check necessary paperwork.
• Lift and stock freight in appropriate storage areas.
• Keep all storage areas neat and clean.
• Operate a pallet jack for positioning pallets of food.
• Lift 70 pounds.
• Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
• Adhere to all District policies and regulations.

Requirements

• Graduate from high school or a general education degree (GED) required.
• Current Alaska Driver's License preferred.
• Ability to present information and respond clearly and understandably to questions from supervisor, staff, students, and the public.
• Ability to read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Preferred Qualifications

• Iñupiaq speaking, language & culture experience.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly required to work in noisy, overcrowded environments, and around dust, fumes, and odors, cleaning chemicals.
• Work with hands in water.
• Must operate machinery with moving parts.
• Noise level is usually moderate.

Pay

Grade 12 – $20.81 per hour
