Utility Worker - 2nd Shift

12-month, full-time classified position reporting to the Director of Operational Services. Monday–Friday, 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m. based at Graf.

Pay

$23.32–$25.88 per hour plus shift differentials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Three years of experience in maintenance
• Experience or knowledge of all building trade skills
• Valid Ohio driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of students
• Perform adjustments and service to facility equipment (compressors, HVAC systems) and maintain operational records
• Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of electrical elements in district facilities
• Perform general maintenance inside and outside the physical plant (ceiling, roof, electrical, welding, plumbing, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile, pump, and fan repairs)
• Perform general labor (grounds keeping, landscaping, handling materials, operating power equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, mowing)
• Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase
• Conduct periodic facility inspections and deliver needed supplies
• Perform annual inventory of work area, supplies, and equipment
• Promote good safety practices and procedures
• Repair and maintain HVAC, motors, and filters
• Inspect and repair roofs for leaks
• Complete painting projects as assigned
• Repair and maintain electrical components (install new circuits, run new wire, install new breakers)
• Renew plumbing components (clean sewer lines, replace fixtures)
• Assemble and install educational equipment
• Repair doors, windows, and vents
• Repair and replace carpet and floor tiles
• Repair masonry structures
• Maintain all safety and code requirements of federal, state, and local authorities
• Install and maintain windscreens, netting pads, and temporary fencing
• Maintain, paint, clean, repair, and prepare fences, swings, bike racks, bleachers, tables, and athletic fields
• Handle, use, and maintain pool chemicals (Certified Pool Operator certificate required)
• Repair and maintain district playground and athletic facility equipment to ensure safety
• Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
• Instruct other workers on proper methods and tool use
• Order and account for materials and labor
• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, hardware, and supplies
• Conduct routine and periodic inspections as part of a preventative maintenance program
• Assist in the care of all maintenance tools and supplies
• Ensure the care, condition, appearance, repair, or replacement of all physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and grounds
• Complete necessary paperwork
• Coordinate activities with PTOs, booster groups, and students for special grounds activities
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator, Head Groundskeeper, or Director of Operations

Working Conditions

• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
• Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; must report on all scheduled work days, including calamity days
• Occasional evening, weekend, or early-morning work
• Occasional repetitive hand motion (use of hand tools)
• Frequent requirement to work near moving mechanical parts (drill press, circular saw, table saw, hand tools)
• Occasional requirement to work in high places
• Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic, dangerous, or caustic chemicals (chlorine, asbestos, welding dust)
• Occasional exposure to loud noises (power tools)
• Frequent requirement to lift and carry items up to 60 lbs.
