Utility Technician - Nights
About the Role
Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry, specializing in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. The Lenox, Iowa facility primarily produces pre-cooked egg patties. This position focuses on repairing, installing, and troubleshooting boiler and refrigeration systems throughout the plant while ensuring compliance with safety, food safety, and quality standards.
The Utilities Maintenance Operator L1 (UMOL1) provides maintenance and reliability services, assisting with water, gas, and air systems asset health improvement efforts. This role partners with plant maintenance, operational teams, and support teams to ensure safe operation and maintenance of facility systems.
Responsibilities
- Participate in water, gas, and air systems maintenance and operations to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Contribute to the advancement of MFI & ARM culture.
- Learn and execute Precision Maintenance® techniques, ensuring procedural compliance and meeting job tolerances.
- Actively participate in critical water, gas, and air systems training for maintenance and operations personnel.
- Assist in implementing quality assurance and reliability procedures for critical systems spares and parts.
- Participate in quality commissioning procedures for rebuilt or new water, gas, and air systems equipment.
- Assist craftsmen during critical maintenance assignments and execute technical troubleshooting tasks.
- Utilize MFI-approved CMMS to manage, document, and support reliability reporting and decision-making.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records (e.g., SAP data, regulatory documentation).
- Provide input for root cause analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance to improve asset reliability.
- Promote and foster Michael Foods culture, values, and principles while demonstrating safe work behaviors.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
- Follow quality work practices, GMPs, and maintain sanitary conditions to ensure product quality.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and report conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
- Associate's degree, two-year technical certificate, or equivalent experience demonstrating technical aptitude preferred.
- 1 year of experience in an industrial environment, preferably with an emphasis on steam or refrigeration.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical, piping, and/or electrical schematics and blueprints, including equipment-specific diagrams.
- Prior experience in SAP preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
