UTILITY SERVICE TECHNICIAN

About the role

The position of UTILITY SERVICE TECHNICIAN performs intermediate semiskilled work locating, maintaining, and reading water meters. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Utility Crew Leader.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining water and utility meters and recording readings.
• Effectively handling customer complaints while maintaining a positive attitude and excellent customer service ratings.
• Initiating and terminating utility services.
• Inspecting, removing, and replacing meters as needed.
• Processing all service orders in a timely manner.
• Restoring and terminating utility services as necessary.
• Maintain records of meter readings and report all inaccessible meters.
• Verifying that meters, visible plumbing, and connections are correctly installed and functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, defects and/or leaks.
• Cleaning out meter boxes and performing general landscape maintenance as needed.
• Servicing and maintaining main valves throughout the City.

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in the installation, maintenance and reading of meters and recording consumption.
• General knowledge of the geography and street locations of the City and Carteret County generally.

Pay

The salary range for this position begins at $48,067. Placement above minimum will depend upon a candidate’s successful qualifications and experience.
