About the role
We are seeking a Utility Relocations Coordinator in the Washington D.C. or Richmond, VA area to support transportation, rail, transit, highway, roadway, and other infrastructure projects. This role works closely with project managers, utility owners, engineering consultants, contractors, public agencies, and clients to facilitate utility coordination activities.
Responsibilities
- Cook up utility relocation activities throughout planning, design, and construction
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for utility companies, consultants, contractors, municipalities, and project teams
- Keep track of utility relocation activities and communicate project updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain utility tracking matrices, conflict matrices, project schedules, and relocation status reports
- Track utility commitments, action items, permits, agreements, and project milestones
- Aid in preparing meeting minutes, reports, correspondence, and project documentation
- Coordinate utility conflict reviews with engineering and design teams
- Aid in reviewing utility plans, drawings, relocation schedules, and engineering documentation
- Support constructability reviews and identify potential utility owners and project teams
- Coordinate requests for information between utility owners and project teams
- Build productive working relationships with utility companies, municipalities, railroads, contractors, and client representatives
- Communicate project schedules, utility requirements, and relocation status updates
- Aid project managers with schedule updates, project reporting, meeting preparation, and project coordination
- Support monitoring utility relocation milestones and identifying potential schedule impacts
- Aid in procurement, permitting, agreement preparation, and project closeout documentation
- Stay updated on utility relocation practices, industry standards, and applicable regulations
- Travel up to 25–40% depending on project assignments

Qualifications
- Strong understanding of utility relocation coordination and infrastructure project delivery
- Working knowledge of utility engineering drawings, conflict analysis, and utility coordination processes
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Knowledge of transportation, rail, roadway, or utility construction practices is preferred
- Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Real Estate, Planning, or a related field preferred; 5–10 years of experience supporting utility relocations, right-of-way, infrastructure, transportation, engineering, construction, or public works projects
- Experience coordinating with utility owners, municipalities, contractors, consultants, or public agencies
- Experience maintaining project schedules, utility tracking logs, documentation, and project reporting
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness
