Utility Person

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person to join our team at Red Hill Quarry in North Garden, VA. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, dependable, and motivated, performing cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment, including cutting and welding under guidance.
• Conduct daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintain a maintenance log.
• Use hand tools, skid steers, front-end loaders, and other equipment to clean around plant areas and maintain roadways/parking areas.
• Operate a water truck to limit airborne dust.
• Participate in plant operations, including production, loading, shipping, and quality control.
• Maintain housekeeping in assigned areas and ensure safe traffic flow throughout the site.
• Operate plant-specific mobile equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks) safely as needed.
• Operate an automated scale and related software to generate customer tickets.
• Administer site-specific training to visitors and enforce site guidelines.
• Direct customers to appropriate areas of the site.
• Maintain accurate records of aggregate tonnage, sales activities, and prepare basic reports.
• Communicate with site personnel to ensure proper recording of sales and customer needs.
• Answer customer calls, provide pricing, product descriptions, and availability.
• Maintain professionalism in all workplace and customer interactions.
• Aid in training co-workers as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in the building materials industry (preferred).

Pay

The base hourly range for this position is $23.69 - $27.28, exclusive of benefits or bonuses. Compensation will be determined based on geographic location, business need, market conditions, skills, education, and experience. The range represents the total reasonable pay range and is not solely a hiring range.

Schedule

Hours: 7 AM - 5 PM, with weekends as necessary.
