Utility Mechanic - Oahu

About the role
Performs all-around maintenance work covered by various mechanical trades and installs and maintains utility piping systems within the department’s scope of activities.
Responsibilities
- Works from plans, specifications, and oral or written instructions.
- Lays out, installs, and repairs all types of department pipes, valves, hangers, supports, etc.
- Performs non-licensed plumbing functions.
- Does sheet metal work as required on truck bodies, cabinets, meter cans, etc.
- Does structural work in repairs to buildings, fences, etc.
- Does general gas and electric welding on various structures and equipment.
- Operates metal working, woodworking, welding, and other equipment; uses hand tools and measuring devices.
- Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
- Performs all types of painting work, including preparation of surfaces and painting of all types of vehicles, equipment, tools, and devices.
- Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
- Assumes an emergency management role, as assigned, and performs specific assignments or functions in an event of an emergency (excluding routine trouble calls/callouts).
Requirements
- Color blindness not acceptable.
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license.
- Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.
- Graduate of Painter Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
- Must pass American Welding Standards (AWS) Structural Welding Code ANSI/AWS D1.1-98* – Steel Test (6010 and 6011 welding rods).
Pay
$55.32 per hour
Schedule
- Monday–Friday
- 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM
