The City of Pearland, TX is seeking a full-time Utility Maintenance Worker to improve day-to-day operations of our Utilities - Distribution and Collections Construction division.

About the Role

A Utility Maintenance Worker performs a variety of manual tasks associated with the construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater connection facilities. Work involves transferring between tasks on construction projects, often in a utility capacity, requiring varied experience and the ability to work without close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Install valves, water lines, and manholes; sewer pipes with appropriate fillings and tees.
  • Repair streets, sidewalks, curbs, and meters.
  • Assist in measuring distances from grade stakes.
  • Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Gather and organize materials to be transported; load pipe, manhole, and various other materials onto trucks for delivery to job sites.
  • Position, join, align, and seal pipe sections.
  • Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Apply paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection using mops, brushes, or spreaders.
  • Apply caulking compounds by hand or with a caulking gun to seal crevices.
  • Grind, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, steel, and plastic.
  • Saw lumber, dismantle forms, remove projections from concrete, mount pipe hangers, and dig out and clean around pipes.
  • Check stock in yard for job assignments and upcoming jobs.
  • Perform maintenance on machines and trucks, ensuring equipment is greased, washed, cleaned, and oil is changed.
  • Clean up job sites by removing used parts and materials, leveling ground back to grade, and replacing sod.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Class I Wastewater Certificate preferred, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.

Pay

$18.86 - $20.41 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
